A Lit'l Turtle In All of Us

"FALSE DANDELIONS' is a Southern noir Crime Fiction novel available now on Amazon.
Working from paycheck to paycheck in a going-nowhere, thankless job, we sometimes get the feeling that we're just errand runners for others. In 'FALSE DANDELIONS' the character 'Turtle' has always been somebody's errand boy. As time went on, Turtle has become an old street dog who has made a few bad decisions...one of which is deciding to steal money from a drug deal and quietly skip town. At times, there's a little Turtle in all of us...sometimes when you feel stuck in a nowhere place and you feel like there's no way out, you began to get anxious and desperate...When you've always been a nobody, you feel a hunger to be a somebody. Turtle was tired of always being somebody else's errand boy. He wanted to run his own game...to become his own man. When you take a gamble as Turtle did in 'FALSE DANDELIONS', sometimes you win -- sometimes you lose.

Book ISBN: 978-1478273721...........Set in rural Virginia, ‘FALSE DANDELIONS’ is a contemporary Southern crime fiction novel filled with romance, small town secrets, broken dreams and murder as locals from Spotsylvania County and Fredericksburg, including a young disabled Iraq war veteran, stop a misguided band of Washington, DC criminals from setting up shop in their quiet town. When Lamar returned home from Iraq they gave him a hero’s welcome but he actually never felt like a true hero until he pulled off his greatest mission ever. A mission that will make this disabled vet a local legend, and a mission that will literally blow you away. Jesse is a rising star but when his mother’s body was found in the murky waters of the Rappahannock, he trades his prized guitar for a shotgun. Ever since Turtle was little, he was always somebody’s errand boy. Now, twenty years later, he decides to break the mold and that is just the beginning of many mistakes Turtle will make. Randolph Randy Camp’s ‘FALSE DANDELIONS’ is about the lives and dreams of underdogs. When you’re stuck in a nowhere place, physically or mentally, you dream of leaving. When you’ve been a nobody and strive to become somebody, sometimes you succeed, sometimes you don’t. Once again, this prolific award-winning writer paints a straight forward picture of contemporary Southern life and reminds us that, regardless of your income or race, there’s a touch of Jesse in all of us and there’s a little Turtle in all of us. If you like Southern noir fiction then Randolph Randy Camp's 'FALSE DANDELIONS' is an absolute must-read!

Never Give Up...For my Children by Randy Camp

Sometimes when I'm feeling a little discouraged about my writing prospects, I begin to think about my children (Natasha, Christina, Melinda, Randie, Ranielle and Joshua) and I start to get a burst of energy and a second wind to lift my spirit and give me enough strength to continue writing on. Being a Southern child of the turbulent 60's and 70's, I'm periodically reminded of how people of all races would join together and march for miles and miles for racial equality and other civil liberties. I imagine that some of those marchers would get tired and weary, but yet, they'd continue marching on...for they knew that their sacrifice and determination for betterment may not benefit them but it may possibly benefit their kids and future generations one day. As a man and as a father myself, I feel that the greatest gift and legacy that I could leave my own family is my words, songs and stories. All of the hard sacrifices would've been worth it if either one of my children or grandchildren should benefit in some type of fashion from my literary properties...and this is the main reason why I will never give up on my writings...because I will always continue marching on and writing on for all of my children and loved ones of the generations to come. - Sincerely, Randy Camp

One summer. Seven hearts. 29 Dimes. It wasn't your typical LA summer. No one could've predicted what happened that day in Silver Lake. It was a summer of passion, confusion, and growth. One hot, crazy summer. Seven hungry hearts. 29 Dimes. Award-winning, prolific writer Randolph Randy Camp creates a moving, tender love story amid a wild, crazy summer as Teki, Ronnie, Pepe, Brittany, Kalib, Tip, and Valerie each will have an experience that will shape and change their young lives forever. Valerie has the kind of natural beauty that belongs on magazine covers. All the guys in Silver Lake dream about her. One guy will get lucky this summer and win her heart. Pepe's mouth has always gotten him into trouble. A talented street poet, will Pepe's provocative, 'in your face' anthem 'Hear My Echo!' get him into trouble at this summer's Silver Lake street festival? Teki will be the first to admit that she's certainly not your typical Chinese girl. A gifted musical prodigy, Teki once got kicked out of a prestigious music academy for rocking a reggae rhythm instead of the required Beethoven tune at her classical piano recital. Now, at seventeen, Teki fronts an all-girl progressive reggae band in Silver Lake. Kalib is a young Armenian computer whiz who is hoping to win Valerie's heart this summer. Carrying the agonizing weight of his family's dark past on his shoulders, Kalib believes that Valerie's love could wash away all of that pain, if only he could somehow convince her to go out with him. A gifted storyteller, Randolph Randy Camp offers the reader a realistic glimpse of contemporary life in the Los Angeles community of Silver Lake. If you still believe that love can happen to the most unlikely people and that love still can be found in the most unusual place then Randolph Randy Camp's '29 Dimes: A Love Story' is for you. One summer. Seven hearts. 29 Dimes.

STORY CLIP from '...THEN THE RAIN'

Story clip from  '...THEN THE RAIN'

The evil-eyed Pastor Wright says to pop star Viki Powers, " Miss Powers, let me clear some'em up. I'm the Pastor in this town and I do NOT lie! What you heard was a prelude. If our conversation was interrupted or ended prematurely for some reason then you couldn't have gotten the FULL story. And if you never hear my full story, then you're not getting the full truth, only an intro...PRELUDE to the full story. So understand, Miss Powers, this Pastor tells no lies. You heard a prelude...not a lie.

"WHY I NEED TO WRITE"......When you're born with an overbite, sizeable nose and other irregularities, sometimes the names that your classmates or your so-called playmate friends call you may not always be your first name, middle name or your nickname, but rather a name that stings and hurts. For some reason, my upper lip would overlap and cover up my front-upper teeth, so at first glance, everyone naturally assumed that I didn't have any upper teeth. To have kids and adults eyeball you  as a child and teasingly ask you, "Where's your teeth?" or  laughingly say, "Look, he ain't got no teeth!" are some of my worst moments during my childhood. At an early age I'd learned to keep a distance from certain kids and adults due to my exposure of being ridiculed and cruelly mocked as a child. It seems that my social and verbal skills weren't up to par as other kids my age, and I quickly found out that I could write and communicate better through words on a piece of paper than I could speak. I truly feel that I'm compelled to write. I absolutely need to write. Writing is a very calming and soothing factor in my life. Writing surely is like therapy for me, as it sort of became a form of both reaching out to others and simultaneously crying on the inside at the same time. I truly know that writing is the deepest part of me. It's certainly who I truly am. If anyone ever asks, "Who is Randy Camp anyway?" they only need to read my stories because each character that I'd ever created definitely has a bit of me within them.

'WET MATCHES: A NOVEL'  is now available in print edition or ebook version on Amazon.    "Wet Matches' tells the uplifting story of five homeless teens in rural Virginia getting a second chance at a better life when a couple on a high school reunion trip takes them on a cross-country journey to their new home in sunny California.
