KCET SECURITY GUARD GOES THE EXTRA 26.2 MILES
Randy Camp raises over $1,700 for the "I Have A Dream" Foundation
Too often, people decide to run from problems. KCET's very own Randy Camp decided to run for one. For the last two years, Camp, an avid jogger and Air Force veteran, has run the Los Angeles Marathon for the "I Have A Dream" Foundation - Los Angeles. Thanks to the support he's received from friends and co-workers, Camp has raised over $2,900 for the foundation, including $1,728.58 in 2004. Camp says every ache and pain has been worth it. "A little bit of time can make a big difference. Knowing I had a part in keeping a kid positive makes me feel really good." Created in 1981, the "I Have A Dream" Foundation helps underprivileged children by providing long-term academic enhancement, mentoring, and cultural enrichment. Upon graduation, all "Dreamers" are provided with financial assistance to attend college or vocational school. IHAD now serves some 12,000 children in 60 cities, including over 800 Los Angeles "Dreamers."
